Communication therapy for people with Parkinson’s Disease is very well-researched and produces very effective results. Intensive programs are used to treat communication changes with the aim to support those with Parkinson’s Disease to better manage and understand their condition.

Northern Beaches Speech Pathology is accredited in and offers: 1) SPEAK OUT!® (and The LOUD Crowd®) which specifically aims to educate and teach the person with Parkinson’s Disease to speak with intent. Speaking with intent converts speech from an automatic function to an intentional act. This results in significant improvements in communication. Given the progressive nature of Parkinson’s Disease daily home practice and continuous follow-up is crucial to maintaining the improvements achieved in any kind of therapy. Ongoing group sessions known as The LOUD Crowd® also enable these skills to be maintained

2) LSVT LOUD® which specifically aims to increase voice loudness. This results in improvements in voice quality, volume, control and intonation. Improvements to the voice enables easier and more confident communication with those around them. This program is based on the principles of neuro plasticity – the brain’s ability to change.
